10 Things to Know Before taking your first Online Yoga Classes

Online Yoga Classes

Ever since Covid-19 hit, everything went online, including fitness classes. Now that you’re used to attending online classes and working from home, why not take your fitness online too? If you’re not a staunch follower of hardcore gym exercises, you can always take to yoga. With online yoga classes available, you can easily workout at your comfort.

The best part about online yoga classes is that you can enroll in as per your convenience and workout from your home. If you’re a beginner, joining a real-time yoga class can become intimidating, especially if everyone else around you has been practicing yoga for sometime now. Doing the poses can get tough, if your body is not that flexible like others around you.

If you take online yoga classes you will at least not be intimidated since you will be practicing the poses alone, where nobody can see you, except for your trainer. But before you begin with your online yoga classes, there are a few things that you should take a note of, like:

  • Take the class on an empty stomach: Doing yoga on a full stomach will hinder your practice. Since you will be doing a lot of twisting, turning and bending, it is recommended that you practice yoga on an empty stomach. If you’re worried about the hunger pangs bothering you mid-class, you can eat an hour before the class.
  • Be early: it is advisable that you log in to the online yoga class 10-15 minutes early. This will help you in asking your doubts to your trainer, especially if you want them to be solved on a one-on-one basis. This is also your chance to connect with your teacher.
  • Keep your props ready: Before you begin with the class, keep all your props ready. You don’t want to be running around your house, searching for your yoga mat or towel or yoga bricks in the middle of the class.
  • There may be chanting: Some yoga classes indulge in Sanskrit chanting at the beginning or the end of the class. If you’re not comfortable with it, it’s okay, you can simply practice deep breathing.
  • Don’t buy yoga accessories: There’s no need to buy yoga socks or gloves. These accessories are marketed for beginners but there’s no need to buy them.
  • Release the tension: The more you release your tension before the classes begin, the more easily you will be able to perform your yoga poses. Keeping things loose and comfortable will help you in practicing your poses more effectively.
  • Breath is everything: In yoga, breathwork is everything. So pay attention to your breathing when doing the poses. Yoga is mostly like meditation, so think about lengthening your inhales and exhales.
  • Child’s pose is the best option: When you aren’t comfortable doing certain poses, you can do the child’s pose. This is not only easy but will also help you ignite your connection to your breath during the class. This is the best way to Zen out and get in tune with your body and mind.
  • Trust the teacher: Moving at your teacher’s pace can be tough. Let them know if you aren’t comfortable doing some poses or ask if there are any variations to them.
  • Be a beginner: Being a beginner means being open to learning, which is the best way to be able to soak in all the goodness that comes along with this practice.

These are the things to remember before enrolling in online yoga classes.
